Read the Search Console numbers correctly: this is not website data. It is Google Business Profile data.

  • GBP only. The impressions and average position below are for one URL: the landing page linked inside the Google Business Profile, filtered in Search Console to that URL alone. Nothing else on the website is counted.
  • Isolated with a UTM tag. That URL carries a UTM parameter that exists in exactly one place in the universe: inside the Business Profile. If Search Console recorded it, Google showed it from the profile.
  • Mobile devices only. The data is filtered to mobile, the surface where these customers actually search.

Before you chase a ranking

The 3-Pack Is No Longer the Whole Local Search Battlefield

Traditional grid reports measure where you rank when a classic pack appears. They do not tell you when Google replaces the pack with an AI Overview, a sponsored module, or another mobile experience. Below: same phone, same Miami Beach street corner, three searches a customer would actually type — and not one showed a classic map pack. We record the surface that actually appeared, then work all of them.

See Google Through Your Customers’ Eyes

Real, unedited recordings from a controlled Android device pinned to Flamingo / Lummus, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Tap to play.

AI Overview took the pack

“personal injury lawyer near me”

Sponsored placements, then an AI Overview with its own map and shortlist of firms. No classic 3-pack appeared.

AI Overview took the pack

“personal injury lawyer open now”

Sponsored placements, then an AI Overview that names two firms and hands out their phone numbers. No classic 3-pack appeared.

AI Overview took the pack

“best car accident attorney”

Sponsored results, then an AI Overview with a map and firms Google chose. Again, no classic 3-pack.

A grid report that says you rank #3 tells you nothing about the searches where the pack never loaded. We record every observation so you see what the customer saw, surface by surface.

Every Data Point Has a Receipt™

The report is not the proof. It is the index. Every major finding can trace back to the underlying mobile observation that produced it.

Market Share Baseline

See where you appear, disappear, and lose high-intent demand before any recovery work begins.

02

Competitive Territory Map

Understand which areas you own, which are contested, and where competitors control the customer journey.

03

Done-for-You Recovery Work

We fix the issues your own evidence surfaces—in priority order—not a generic checklist.

04

Lead Intelligence

Track qualified calls, forms, estimates, appointments, and opportunities when the required access is available.

05

30-Day Before / After

See what changed, where you gained ground, what happened to lead flow, and what should happen next.

Find. Fix. Prove.

The system is deliberately simple at the executive level, even when the evidence underneath is granular.

1

Find the Gap

Days 1–5

Collect real mobile device/location observations across the target market and identify where valuable visibility is being lost.

2

Fix the Visibility

Days 6–21

Implement the highest-priority profile, website, media, relevance, and conversion corrections surfaced by the evidence.

3

Prove the Movement

Days 22–30

Repeat the observations, compare the market, and determine whether stronger visibility coincided with more qualified demand.

Why this system was built

The reports looked fine, but the phones told a different story. That contradiction is what forced us to stop trusting one snapshot and start documenting the mobile market.

The operator behind the receipts

Built by Brock Misner. Built in the Field.

Two years ago I shut down my local SEO agency to go all-in on pay-per-call lead generation. No retainers, no white-label partners. I only got paid when the phone rang.

For the first 60 to 90 days it was the best stretch of my career. By the second month we were generating more than 2,000 legitimate leads a month. Financially, I had never been higher.

Then, almost overnight, the phone stopped.

I did what every SEO does. I spent a small fortune on rank-tracking software and local map grids. I ran grids location by location, several times a day. And the grids were green. Overwhelmingly green. According to every tool I owned, nothing was wrong—while the calls that paid my bills disappeared. It was the lowest point of my life.

Out of desperation I paid a former Google engineer $1,000 for a Zoom call. I brought everything: technical audits, spreadsheets, Search Console, Business Profile insights, and—my trophy—the green map grids. I expected him to be as baffled as I was.

He laughed. Literally laughed. He told me that inside Google, SEOs holding up map grids as proof was a running joke among the people actually building the algorithm. Then he said the sentence that changed my business:

“You cannot own a position that is recalculated and re-rendered a thousand times a day.”

There is no position one in the mobile map pack. For a real person on a real phone—real cell tower, real Wi‑Fi, and yes, Google knows an emulator when it sees one—the local pack is recalculated and re-rendered in real time. Run 100 searches for the same keyword from the same spot right now and you can get 100 different results.

Rank trackers cannot see that. They run through APIs, headless browsers, and desktop user agents, and Google hands them cached results: a snapshot saved on a server somewhere. Not out of spite. It is simply too expensive to recompute results for traffic that is not human, and most internet traffic is not. By design, those tools cannot measure what a customer actually sees.

After a few weeks of denial, that sent me down a long rabbit hole: multi-armed bandits, Thompson sampling, Bayesian models, behavioral telemetry. Once I saw it for myself, it could not have been clearer. An entire industry is still reporting on twenty-year-old technology. That is the gap. That is the advantage.

So I built the thing I wanted to buy: real phones, in real locations, recording what Google actually shows. Every service Stakeout sells sits on top of that.

If we claim it, we can play you the recording.

Measurement integrity

Why Our Measurement Fleet Is Android-Only

Not because iPhones are bad. Because every observation has to be controllable, repeatable, and auditable.

I use an iPhone personally. Apple can provide precise location, but iOS also lets location accuracy be reduced for an individual app; Apple says reduced-accuracy location is usually within 1–20 kilometers of the actual location. Android also offers approximate location. So we do not assume any phone is measurement-grade simply because Location Services is turned on.

Our standard is verification—not brand preference. We currently use a controlled Android cohort because we can provision, verify, log, and reject every observation against the same evidence gates.

This is a standardized Android observation cohort, not a claim that every iPhone user sees the same result. iOS will be added only when it can meet the same automated evidence standard, and it will be reported as a separate cohort rather than blended into the Android baseline.

Preflight evidence gate

An observation does not count unless it passes.

Controlled Android cohort
  1. 01Target coordinate confirmedThe intended observation point is loaded and recorded.
  2. 02Location coherence checkedDevice location and network geography must meet the agreed tolerance.
  3. 03Precise permission and app state verifiedThe correct Google surface is open under the expected measurement state.
  4. 04Evidence capturedVideo, screenshot, timestamp, result state, and observation metadata are attached.
  5. 05Failed checks are quarantinedAn incomplete or incoherent observation is excluded rather than averaged into the report.
Why not add iPhones anyway?

Our current iOS environment cannot be provisioned and verified across Chrome, the Google app, and Google Maps with the same fleet-level controls at the scale this service requires. More devices would make the report look broader—but weaker evidence would make it less defensible.

Technical source note

Apple documents both per-app Precise Location controls and a reduced-accuracy mode. Android also supports precise and approximate app permissions. Apple’s separate “Limit Precise Location from cellular networks” control affects data available to cellular carriers; Apple states that it does not change location shared with apps through Location Services.

Questions a serious buyer should ask

Premium work should be specific about what is measured, what is implemented, and what cannot honestly be guaranteed.

No. Google controls its results, and customer demand varies. We guarantee the agreed observation work, evidence package, prioritized implementation, and 30-day comparison. The report separates measured visibility changes from lead outcomes and avoids claiming causation the data cannot support.

The entry plan is built for one location in one market: real-device observations of what customers see, Business Profile and landing-page fixes prioritized by what we record, and a monthly receipt report on calls, clicks, and visibility. Multi-location businesses, highly competitive markets, and lead-generation programs are scoped separately. You get a straight answer on price before any work starts, never after.

Most agencies report a grid: where a tool says you rank. We record what a real customer on a real phone saw at a real location, fix what is actually costing you calls, and show you the change with the receipt attached—the recording, the Business Profile data, the Search Console data. If your current agency’s grid is green and your phone is quiet, that gap is exactly what we measure.

The core sprint still includes market measurement, recorded evidence, recovery implementation, and remeasurement. Lead, appointment, and revenue analysis is added only when the necessary access and reliable data are available.

No software login to babysit. It is a done-for-you monthly service starting at $297/month, opening with the 30-day recovery sprint. The evidence and deliverables from the sprint remain yours whether or not you continue past it.

Established local service businesses where one qualified customer has meaningful economic value—roofing, plumbing, HVAC, legal, medical, restoration, contracting, and comparable local-service categories.

This is not an anti-iPhone decision. Both iOS and Android can provide precise or approximate app location. We currently use a controlled Android cohort because our infrastructure can verify the device location, network geography, app state, and evidence capture before each observation is counted. Failed checks are excluded. See the full methodology.

The first run requires hands-on market setup, device observation time, evidence review, implementation, and close measurement. Capacity is limited so the inaugural cases receive the attention necessary to produce defensible work.
